be painted instead of replaced, which keeps them out of the landfill
and saves money, too.

Here, painted shutters were the natural choice for the bare door.
• Sometimes the most effective strategy is not to buy more furniture
and accessories for your home, but to first rethink the pieces that are
already paid for.

AFTER (ABOVE): By moving the chandelier, the furniture
could be rearranged to the ends of the long room,
accenting the bay window. The couple did all the painting,
except the table and chests, which were faux
painted by Sammie Cockrell of Faux FX. A matching
shutter from Houston Shutters was added to the door.
BEFORE (RIGHT): The bay window was not being
used to hold furniture, and the side door was missing
a matching window treatment.
AFTER (LEFT): Flipping the runner to the green side
and adding an additional antique obi added interest
to the table and eliminated the “matchy-matchy”
look. Forsyth Floor Co. installed the new wood floors,
which flow seamlessly into the rest of the downstairs
flooring.

spending unnecessary money on replacements. “Our friends
were amazed that we were able to make such drastic changes
using our existing furniture.” Beside the floors, the only things
the Lynches purchased were two pairs of non-matching buffet
lamps from www.homedecorators.com.
“We actually enjoy using the dining room now and actually
use the room often — even for weeknight meals,” Susan says
with a smile.
