Lubbers guesstimates that the cost of a full turnkey upgrade — new pool
equipment, new tile and coping, new plaster and new decking — could
run from $15,000 to $20,000. Your final cost, of course, will be affected
by the size of your pool and the myriad choices you make along the way.

Lubbers says it’s important to make sure any pool, but especially an
older one, is up to current standards. He recently upgraded a pool that
had been built in 1956 by adding a ground fault interrupter, a feature
that is installed to protect users from electrical shock and is required by
city code. It does make for a safer pool area, which, in the end, is always
the most important pool upgrade.
