INVENTIVE DESIGN FOR HOUSTON’S CLIMATE
Story by Linda Barth • Photography by Miro Dvorscak
In a transitional neighborhood on the edge of the Heights, two new
Butterfly Lofts take their inspiration from an old-fashioned housing
form once common in Houston: the Southern shotgun house.
OPPOSITE PAGE: Two-story screened porches on the rear south-facing side of the Butterfly Lofts let Houston’s prevailing Gulf breeze in while
keeping bugs and mosquitoes out. “The porch is why we bought the house,” says Sandy Steitz. The lap pool in foreground is by Splish Splash Pools.
